In 1913, parts of the Valleys around Merthyr were hit by a tornado.

And in 1963, ice floes covered the surface of the sea between Cardiff and Penarth.

But that doesn’t make the stunning, devastating waves that crashed over seafronts at Porthcawl and Aberystwyth earlier this year any less impressive.
