The RSPCA is appealing for information after a pair of chickens were left “scared and abandoned” on a street in Porthcawl.

The birds were discovered in a specially-adapted box outside a house in Lime Tree Way, Porthcawl on October 31.

Lights had been attached to the box, with air holes been cut out, said an RSPCA spokesperson.

The box had been painted and was tied up “like a present”.

“How these chickens ended up in this box is a complete mystery” said Inspector Gemma Cooper.

“The box would have taken sometime to design so obviously a lot of effort has gone into this prank.

“Although the chickens were not injured they were extremely scared, I am all for Halloween fun, but not when it puts animal welfare at risk”.
