An initiative by a local businessman to bring a little joy into the lives of ill, abused or disadvantaged children, launched in Bridgend recently.

Called ‘Calendars for Kids’, the scheme – brainchild of Steve Davies-Evans – has a target of 100 Advent calendars to be donated before November 27

As Mr Davies-Evans said: “There are, sadly, hundreds of children that won’t experience a ‘normal’ Christmas.

“A lot of these children are in poor health, victims of domestic violence or are awaiting to placed with a new foster family so won’t get presents or the love and fuss that they deserve.

“I know that an Advent calendar won’t change any of that but if it can improve their Christmas by 1 per cent, then it’s worth doing.

Mr Davies-Evans added that he is working with Bridgend County Borough Council to co-ordinate a list of organisations and groups that could best benefit from the donations.

Advent calendars can be donated to Sainsbury’s or McArthur Glen outlet village in Bridgend and Brackla Co-Op (Triangle), Porthcawl Co-Op (Lias Road) and also at the front desk at The Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend.
