Here comes summer, oh happy days!

Unfortunately, this week it was unhappy days weatherwise for our bowlers.

On Monday, Cowbridge Bowls Club had two matches, a ladies’ Evening League and a men’s County Fours, both cancelled with rain!

On Tuesday, the ladies played, and won, a CCS match in very strong winds, at home against Pencoed.

May Jones’ rink scored a hot shot (winning all eight shots on one end). Helping May achieve this were Dorothy Pritchard, Sian Lewis and Pat Holdsworth, with a win of 25-12. Well done!

The other winning rink was Diane Purnell, Caryl Davies, Kay Edwards and skip Joy Woolford, who won 25-10, to win the match 60-46.

On Thursday, the Ladies’ League match at home to Cadoxton was cancelled due to a flooded green!

On Wednesday, the men played their Munro Cup match at home to Cadoxton in constant rain (it never stopped!).

However, it didn’t stop them winning on two rinks and drawing on one with a win of 62-47.

Terry Dunsworth, Phil Woosman, Ken Payne and skip Clive Pritchard won 24-11, Ron Dobie, Owen Hopkins, Colin Wilson and skip Bob Penn won 16-11 and on skip Norman Wilkinson’s rink they drew 11-11.

On Thursday, the men managed to play their Evening Triples match away at Aberkenfig, thankfully in the dry, but sadly they lost 59-79, gaining four points with two good rink wins.

Tom Purnell, Alan Jordan and skip Bob Penn won 23-10, John Hunt, Colin Wilson and skip Clive Pritchard won 17-9.

Then, on Friday, with some sunshine on their backs, the men played their County Senior Fours match against four players from Murch, winning 15-14 on the last end of a very close game.

Our team players were Terry Dunsworth, John Jones, Norman Wilkinson and skip Roger Barwick.

With Murch holding three shots on the last end, Roger played with weight to take the jack into the ditch for shot wood.

On Saturday, the men played their second league match away at Millwood. The weather was fine, but not the result – we lost on all four rinks, and the match, by 47-113. The least said the better!

Hopefully, summer will arrive this week!
