Yet another good week for the ladies with good wins at home and points away from home in a Two Rink Evening League game on Tuesday against Porthcawl Curlews at home in a Cowbridge Shield Match.

Rink scores: Lynda Wilson, Corrie Bufton, Pat Holdsworth and May Jones 23-8; Janet Morton, Phyllis Price, Helena Snelling and Joy Woolford 13-16; Lin Wallace, Carol Davies, Shirley Wilkinson and Sylvia Hole 18-12. Match score: Cowbridge 54, Curlews 36.

Wednesday saw a league match, again at home, against Cadoxton.

Rink scores: Corrie Bufton, Maggie Penn, Joy Woolford and Helena Snelling 27-8; Lynda Wilson, Diane Lloyd, Dorothy Pritchard and Sue Flower 30-12; Caryl Davies, Jan Lewis, Sylvia Hole and Joan Bradley 35- 0.75 (opposing team played with three players). Match score: Cowbridge 92, Cadoxton 20.75.

Friday evening saw a two rink away game at Millwood.

Rink scores: Dorothy Pritchard, Phyllis Price, Diane Lloyd and Joan Bradley 6-34; Lynda Wilson, Sylvia Hole, Pat Holdworth and Shirley Wilkinson 19-8. Match score: Cowbridge 25, Millwood 42.

The men played their first game, an Evening Triples game on Monday evening at home to Ogmore Vale, and lost overall by just one shot.

This was despite an excellent rink win by John Jones, Bryan Hole (who was outstanding) and Norman Wilkinson (skip) – they won 29-7. Match score: Cowbridge 70, Ogmore Vale 71.

In their midweek Munro Cup game Cowbridge were away to Dinas Powis. This is always a difficult place in which to pick up away points but Colin Wilson’s rink with support from Gerrry Lloyd, Ron Dobie and Ken Payne did just that with a 19-16 win.

We lost on the other three rinks. Match score: Cowbridge 44, Dinas Powis 78.

Making their first visit to Cowbridge last Saturday for a league game were 16 players from Blaenrhondda.

On three of the rinks at half-time Blaenrhodda were leading. One rink skipped by Roger Barwick went into a good lead.

After 21 ends Cowbridge had won on three of the rinks and gained 12 valuable points.

Rink scores: Mansel Davey. Ken Payne, Guy Morton and Clive Pritchard 17-15; Gerry Lloyd, John Collin, Peter Launder and Norman Wilkinson 21-14; Tom Purnell, Bryan Hole, Colin Wilson and Dennis Snelling 15-19; Terry Dunsworth, John Jones, Brian Kent and Roger Barwick 53-5 (score of 53 included a hot shot on the 11th end). Match score: Cowbridge 106, Blaenrhondda 53.

Finally, Cowbridge will always need new players and if, as readers, you are thinking of trying the game some time why not call in for a chat on a Friday evening between 6pm-8pm. Ask for Mike Bradley; you will find the green behind the Leisure Centre.
