Man found dead on Porthcawl seafront is named as William Harrison

A man found dead on the Porthcawl seafront today has been named as William Harrison.

The 24-year-old was found at 9.38am following a report from the coastguard of a body near the Seabank Hotel.

Mr Harrison had been reported missing this morning.

The body was formally identified by a relative.

He was later named by police as Mr Harrison.

South Wales Police said: “The incident is not being treated as suspicious at this stage and enquiries are continuing.”

Cafe worker at Booth’s, Candice Booth, 21, said people were first made aware when a customer pointed out people on the beach.

“Me and my dad were here opening up this morning and the wind was blowing a gale, there were hail stones and then one of our customers said there is a body on the beach,” she said

“That’s when we noticed police near the rocks. We were really shocked. At first they cordoned the area off, there was police and ambulance down here. It’s really sad and upsetting.”

Manager of nearby hotel, The Seabank, Peter Jaques, said: “The police and ambulance were down there for about 45 minutes and they pulled a body off the beach. The weather was really bad.

“It’s really sad, a horrible thing to happen. You just have to think of the family going into the New Year.”

Mr Harrison was last seen wearing a bright red hooded top with the ‘Saltrock’ logo on the front with black jogging bottoms with the Guinness logo on the front, which have not been found. If found, call 101.
