June 28 at the Hi-Tide saw the end of the Lion year when Porthcawl Lions’ past president Rhys Lewis handed over the presidency to founder member and very active octogenarian Don Tickner.

Don is very well thought of by all club members, having been president before and also membership officer for a number of years.

These days he and his wife Marilyn sort all the books and Don organises the book stalls in John Street.

Don, dressed in the obligatory jacket and hat which, luckily, has to be worn solely on handover night, accepted the president’s chain.

He then thanked Rhys for his dedication and hard work at all times, but especially during his year in office and presented him with a token of the club’s appreciation.
